March Madness

Overview of the ArenaOriginally uploaded by Kate Scott.

Well that might be a bit of an oversell but March has seen its fair share of events in the Scott household…..

Grand Prix
As is traditional in the Parsons’ family March saw two seats booked at the Melbourne Grand Prix so all could enjoy the F1 action. However, in a break from the norm, Andrew also went along to this year’s carnival as a spare seat was on offer for the Saturday sessions. For some photos of the action check out Andrew’s Flickr account. Whilst he’s not a converted motorhead Andrew did enjoy the spectacle and does at least now know what it is the Parsons’ get so excited about! Kate went along for the big race itself on Sunday and enjoyed herself thoroughly. Whilst Kate was at the track Andrew was singing at the annual the Melbourne Chorale’s Verdi Requiem sing-along, yes, I think we have a way to go before he joins the Parsons’ fanatics…..

FINA Diving
Melbourne hosted a ridiculous number of ‘big events’ in March so we took advantage and went along to see the men’s 10m diving as part of the FINA Swimming World Championships. The diving was held at the Albert Park Aquatic Centre, which is located next to the GP track which we’d both been at the weekend before. It was a little surreal to walk through the ‘kitty litter’ to get into the swimming stadium. Whilst the photo really speak for themselves (see Kate’s Flickr account) it’s fair to say that Kate got slightly more out of the evening than Andrew, who knew that divers were that hot? And of course, given it was the World Championships the guys really turned it on with some spectacular dives. The highlights of evening were definitely the dives that started from a handstand position, which had most of the audience in shocked, and horrified, awe.

Launch of Andrew’s Wikki – 99sauces
Andrew’s been working of a wikki for the last few months and March saw it go ‘live’ to family and friends. It’s all about the Melbourne food and wine scene and goes by the name of 99sauces. Check it out and don’t forget to contribute the details of your favourite place/person/supplier!

House Update
The big achievement for March was the installation of two new storage units (both purchased from Ikea). A small free-standing unit in the kitchen (all the kitchen boxes are finally unpacked) and a large, actually the largest Ikea has, cupboard in the spare room. Whilst the kitchen cupboard was an easy job the spare room cupboard was far more challenging. Work took place over a couple of weekends with Kate’s Dad, Tim, helping out the first weekend to attached the unit to the wall (it’s 216cm tall and 200cm wide). Kate and Lynne (Kate’s Mum) spent the day gossiping and catching up, and feeding the work crew!, while Tim and Andrew worked hard to install the cupboard. Doors went on the next Friday evening, while the shelves went in over the space of another week. And then finally we unpacked the majority of the boxes into the cupboard, which houses linen as well as clothes and other oddments. For photos of our storage solutions see Kate’s Flickr account. Whilst it might not be exciting to you it really is to us!

Other March events

  • Kate’s work trip to Emu Bottom Homestead where she hosted 27 guests to a traditional Australian BBQ dinner (complete with pav), boomerang show (surprisingly not too Aussie!) and a very cool stargazing tour.
  • Three great birthday parties including Jacinta’s, Benno’s and Claire’s.
  • Visits from Kate’s cousins, Penny and Emily.
  • Went to the Melbourne Theatre Company play ‘The Ghostwriter’ which started strongly but faded oddly towards the end. We’ve awarded it the ‘Thinnest Actress Yet Seen on Stage’ Award
  • Veronica Mars Series Three started screen at 10.30pm on Friday nights!
