10 years, New Weatherboards and a Great Vanilla Slice!

Vanilla Slice Birthday Cake

Well, after a house-centred October we managed to do far more non-house related stuff in November. Melbourne Cup weekend Andrew and Tim, Kate’s Dad, took on the shed, and won. They re-weatherboarded the back of the shed whilst Kate finished off the garden (mulching like mad for summer), and it all looked fabulous. To celebrate we hosted a Melbourne Cup BBQ in true Melbourne fashion, charring some snags (note to self, sausages with honey in them do not cope well on the BBQ), waving the flies off the salads and all cheering on the eventual winner to victory. The next weekend Andrew and Tim took on the back of the house, and again emerged the victors, in what turned out to be a far more serious challenge.

November also saw the Parsons clan head down to Sorrento to celebrate the birthday of our patriarch’s 60th year. We borrowed the holiday house of a family friend and a great time was had by all. We ate, drank, played a board game (very un-Parsons), the men played golf on the very hilly Portsea course while the women gossiped, and the birthday cake consisted of some of the best vanilla slices ever tasted, courtesy of The Bakehouse, Sorrento. A great birthday weekend.

Kate also headed up to Sydney for a conference, and had the good fortune to catch up with Mandy, Penny, Emily and her girlfriend. It was a lovely night, perfect Sydney weather made eating on the balcony possible, and the view across the city was as gorgeous as always. The two days were made all the better as Melbourne was suffering a blistering heat wave, which didn’t eventuate in Sydney!

We also celebrated our 10 year dating anniversary this month. Quite shocking really to think that we’ve been together for quite so many years, but we see it as a good thing that the time has flown by. The actual evening we headed to the local pub for dinner, which was quite nice until the Quiz Night got started…. so we moved to another café for dessert and coffee.

Election eve saw us at Claire and Benno’s place, celebrating the end of the Howard era, thank goodness we don’t have to activate those plans to move to Canada! Kate’s also started an ink drawing class at the CAE, activating some long forgotten artistic brain cells. Andrew’s successfully studied for and sat his two exams, results to be released in the next couple of weeks.

We’re now preparing for the usual December madness of catch-ups and Christmas parties. We’re off to Perth for Christmas and taking only minimal leave given the number of (fantastic) holidays we’ve had this year.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas, and a fabulous start to 2008!
