Naples stretches along the Bay of Naples. From here it
looks like a gorgeous city but don't be fooled!

A fairly typical apartment block with washing blowing
in the pollution laden and humid breeze..

The Bay of Naples with the corner of Mt Vesuvius on the
right.

One of the many streets of Pompeii. In the foreground are
the raised stepping stones that allowed Pomeiians to cross
the street without getting down into the filth. You can also
see wheel tracks left by the carts of so long ago.
|
Frescos in the Villa of Mysteries. Located just outside
the walls of Pompeii the villa was a rich man's country house,
complete with vineyards and a wine making workshop.

|
Another of Pompeii's amazing frescos. And these are the
ones that have been left in-situ with the truly magnificent
ones being either souvenired or cut off walls to end up in
museums around the world.
|
The small theatre of Pompeii. We were treated to an impromptu
performance of O Sole Mio by a fellow tourist, still an
amazing acoustic.
|
|
The Pompeii Amphitheater where the locals piled in to
see plays and gladiator fights. Sometimes the amphitheater
was filled with water so that ship battles could be fought.
