Berlin's main street Unter Der Linden, or under the Linden
trees. Once a thoroughfare for Germany royalty it's a beautiful
street which lives up to its name.

The infamous CheckPoint Charlie. Once the only place you
could cross though the dead zone between East and West Germany
it now plays host to university students dressed in military
uniforms who have their photos taken with tourists.

We went to a concert of Beethoven's 9th at the Berlin Konzerthaus.

Berlin is built in a bog and when new building works are
undertaken they have to pipe excess water out of the site.
With typical german ingenuity they paint the pipes bright
colours and rent them out for advertising slogans. |
Possibly not what the designers of the Reichstag had in
mind when they designed the glass interior and dome of Germany's
new parliament building...

Andrew comes to grips with ein berliner, or jam donut,
made famous by JFK's gaff. Most historians assume he meant
to declare solidarity with the divided people of Berlin
by saying 'I am a Berliner' rather than announcing himself
a jam donut

The Berlin wall. The wall has been so badly damaged by
souvenir hunters that a fence now protects this once hated
symbol of soviet oppression.

The Pergamon alter in the aptly named Pergamon Museum.
Whilst other countries contented themselves with taking
sculptures and paintings the Germans souvenired entire buildings.

This is all that remains of the Kaiser Wilhelm church
which has been left as a lasting monument to the destruction
of WWII.
